About The Pirate King

First and most importantly, The Pirate King is a female.  (Yes, there were quite a few female pirates—Sadie the Goat, Rachel Wall, Mary Read, Anne Bonny, Grace O'Malley, Charlotte de Berry, etc., etc.  If you fancy reading about them, check out Booty: Girl Pirates on the High Seas by Sara Lorimer.)  "The Pirate Queen" would probably be more descriptive, but a) we like our Gilbert and Sullivan references unadulterated around here, and b) "The Pirate Queen" sounded too much like someone in drag.

If you harbor a burning desire to know why TPK started this site, The Manila Tombstone is about the nearest she comes to a manifesto.

The Pirate Review is all about media reviews and editorials, plus reviews of local haunts in Utah, Washington and Oregon.  (TPK writes other stuff, too, but it's not on this site.)  Pirates are basically lawless, so TPK reviews/editorializes/writes rambling screeds upon any subject she jolly well pleases.  If you like what you read, consider purchasing something; TPK doesn't believe in keeping a tip jar, so the only money this site makes is through its links to Amazon.com.  Don't like it?  No skin off her nose.  Go start your own site; there's plenty of room left on the Net.

A firm believer in shameless pimping, TPK wishes to point out the writings of her tasty and versatile husband, Captain Midnight.  You can read his editorial articles at the Captain's Comments (as Strong Bad says, updated somedays).

TPK is usually suspicious of anyone who refers to himself/herself in the third person (see Bob Dole) and therefore refuses to trust herself.

If your browser is not Java-enabled, you can write to her at tpk@[the name of this site].com (address kludged in what will probably be a futile attempt to keep spambots away).
